As you know, the Governors January budget proposal cuts education by $2.4 billion as well as making severe cuts to other childrens programs. For CUSD, that represents an additional $12.5 million on top of the $21.5 million that the district was already planning to cut, for a total of $34 million in cuts needed for the 2010-11 school year.
One of the things PTAs across the state are trying to do is to have the Governor provide the necessary revenues for education and childrens programs in his May budget proposal (called the May Revise) and for legislators to send him a final budget that does the same.
State PTA has put together an on-going advocacy campaign, called "9 Million Reasons to Speak Up for Children" and a parent letter writing campaign is this months component.
